| These are a series of images from a middle age woman with shortness of breath. Due to an accumulation of pericardial fluid, a resting tachycardia and a deterioration of the patient, it was decided to insert a pericardial drain percutaneously.
The first film is before the drain was inserted and shows a large heart/pericardial shadow due to a combination of an enlarged heart and pericardial fluid.
The second film is the post pericardial tap film that shows a pneumo-pericardium. The air in the pericardium is also seen in the CT scans below, as well as pleural effusions and pulmonary infiltrates.
